Yes, bring your universal electricity plug; Colombia uses Type A with 110V (please be careful with your 230V hair dryer or groomer). Yes, you can use your normal phone chargers. A power bank may come in handy.

How safe is Cartagena?

Cartagena is generally considered one of the safer cities in Colombia for tourists, including solo female travelers. The city has made a significant effort to improve security over the past decade, particularly in tourist-frequented areas. In Colombia, they say, 'Don’t give papaya,' meaning 'don’t let yourself be taken advantage of.' As long as you’re careful, you’ll be fine—because, as the saying goes, 'papaya given is papaya taken.' We recommend minimizing the use of jewelry or any other expensive accessories.

What other places should we visit in Colombia?

We personally prefer Medellín over Bogotá when it comes to major cities. It has a vibrant atmosphere, great gastronomic experiences for foodies, and, most of all, beautiful blue skies nestled within the mountains, along with a rich history of Colombia. If you're more of a beachbum, consider San Andrés, an island near Panama that is part of Colombia. If you don't like to fly or have limited time, Santa Marta is another option, or you can head to Isla Barú, which is just over an hour away from Cartagena. If you have more time and feel like being adventurous, the Tatacoa Desert or the Amazon Rainforest (Leticia) will certainly provide an unforgettable experience in the heart of nature.

Are kids invited?

Kids are certainly welcome throughout the program; however, Friday evening from 6 p.m. onwards will be adults-only. Please let us know in advance if you plan to bring children, as we can connect you with nanny services in Cartagena. You can expect friendly, Spanish/English-speaking nannies.
